World famous

Again the stage of Jazz In Wageningen houses a world famous musician. Chris Potter (1971) is already a role model for Jazz players around the world. His spontaneous solos are studied and copied note by note.
Downbeat Magazine writes: “There’s almost nothing he can not accomplish on the saxophone,”.

First Piano then Saxophone

Chis Potter initially played the piano. But inspired by Paul Desmond's and Dave Brubeck's "take Five" he went playing the saxophone.

One of the first performances of Chris Potter was at the Aspen Music Festival in 1984. There he met the drummer Myles Weinstein. Myles was quite impressed by the young Potter. Years after the first meeting he remembered Chris and ask the saxophone player to join his combo The Jazz Mentality.

Awards

Chris Potter was nominated for a Grammy Award with his solo play in the song "In Vogue". This song is a track on the album Pink Elephant Magic (1999) of Joanne Brackeen. Furthermore Chris plays a prominent role on Steely Dan's Grammy-winning album from 2000, "Two Against Nature".

Performances

Potter developed as a big improvisator. He is the youngest musician ever who won the Danish Jazzpar Prize. Potter's impressive discography contains 15 albums. As leader and sideman he's to be heard on more than 100 albums.

Big names

Chris Potter has played with many famous musicians such as Kenny Werner, Ray Brown, Paul Motian, James Moody, Dave Holland and many more.

Electric Groove Jazz

Earlier this year Chris Potter made the album The Sirens at the famous ECM label and that caused a wave of positive reviews.

With Chris Potter’s Underground you can expect intense electric groove jazz. With rhythmic fireworks of drummer Nate Smith, driving bass lines of Firma Ephron and colorful chords of guitarist Adam Rogers.
