One of the dreams of Jazz In Wageningen coming true: Yellowjackets live in Wageningen!

This band has a long history and a lot of fine musicians played in it for a longer or shorter time. It started in 1977 (!) with Robben Ford (guitar), Russell Ferrante (keys), Jimmy Haslip (bass) and Ricky Lawson (drums). Later on also with Marc Russo, William Kennedy, Marcus Baylor, Bob Mintzer, Peter Erskine, Terri Lyne Carrington, Felix Pastorius…

Musical refreshment

During the years the group has had many musicians that all had their musical influences. 

That is one of the reasons that the music of Yellowjackets kept developing all the time. Drummer William Kennedy took the band into world beats and soundscapes while saxophone player and arranger Bob Mintzer focussed more at straight-ahaed acoustic jazz. After 1995 the group used more elements of the relaxed sounds of the first years. The music of Yellowjackets (most of it written by Haslip and Ferrante) is amongst others used in the soundtrack of the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Wageningen

These days Yellowjackets has the following line-up: 

Russell Ferrante (keys), Bob Mintzer (sax), William Kennedy (drums) and Dane Alderson (bass). We can assure you that this is an enormous amount of musical quality that is hard to find on one stage together. We say: come and join us on November 10 in Junushoff.
