Soo Cho
She was born in South Korea and took pianolessons at the age of 3. Later she has been studying classical piano at the Sung Sin University in Seoul. After her studies she played on many stages, but when she discovered jazz, she decided to move to the Netherlands and to dedicate her life to jazz. She studied piano and composition at various conservatories (Utrecht, Amstedam, The Hague, New York) with, among others, Bert van den Brink, Charles Boehlee, Rob van Bavel, Kris Goessens and Jason Moran. Next to this quartet Soo plays in other bands and groups, for example with Angelo Verploegen and Javier Girotto.
Music
The music of Jass United has a story in the first line, leaving huge room for personal interpretation, just dream away, nothing takes the lead, the bands members work entirely at the service of their music. As a modern fairy tale pianist Soo Cho holds a mirror in front of the listener, nothing is what it apparently what to appears, and the music deserves and requires further exploration.
Musicians
Next to Soo Cho we have Javier Girotto (Soprano saxophone). His energy and sound on the soprano saxophone are very unique, and it
perfectly suites Soo's lyrical way of playing. He is able to express his energy in so many ways. Sven Happel (Bass) is a solid pillar of the support for others but as well as being a solid and dependable bassist, when called on he truly shines as a soloist. Jasper van Hulten (Drums) is painting all over the music. He is always aware of when to support and when to be dominant. More information can be found at www.soocho.nl
