Iconic
Joey Calderazzo (1965, New Rochelle, New York) is perhaps not the best known name as a jazz pianist, but plays an important role in contemporary jazz. He grew up in a musical family and started playing the piano when he was 7. Some time later, during a clinic he met Michael Brecker in whose quintet he played from 1987. From 1990, together with Branford Marsalis, and he plays on the records he made in 1990 by Blue Note and Columbia with Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette, John Patitucci and Jeff "Tain" Watts. So Calderazzo is part of a group of iconic jazz musicians worldwide for years.

Trio
These days he lives in Wake Forest, Nort Carolina, playing as piano soloist, as member of the Brandford Marsalis Quartet and with his own trio, which is coming to Wageningen. Last year the trio made the album "Joey Calderazzo Trio Live". The record got international laudatory reviews.
Originally, Joey Calderazzo was booked with his American trio. However, these plans had to be changed. During a short European tour
(Wageningen, Amsterdam, Warsaw) he'll perform with a surprisingly new Dutch line-up: Haye Jellema on drums and (from Wageningen) bassist Jasper Somsen. Although we would have loved to welcome the musicians from Joey Calderazzo's latest album, it is great to know that American musicians are willing to perform with the ever hard working musicians from the Netherlands. A spectacular concert guaranteed!
