Lochs Balthaus Herskedal
A modern, lyrical jazz trio with a unusual line-up. The Dutch trumpet player Bert Lochs and the German pianist Dirk Balthaus know each other for over 20 years and made several albums together. Jazz Now wrote: "Balthaus and Lochs have a unified view of their music, in which melancholy and optimism are constantly battling for supremacy. In 2009 the Norwegian tuba virtuoso Daniel Herskedal was brought in because of his impressive playing. In his own country a welcome guest and with Lochs and Balthaus he became an important factor.
North Sea Jazzfestival
They released their first CD in 2009. It was praised by the international press with words like 'masterpiece' and 'sublime'. It was followed by performances at the North Sea Jazz Festival and a number of leading venues in the Netherlands. In April 2011 the band toured successfully in Germany.
Choises
Meanwhile the second CD has been produced and it will be presented on the stage of Jazz at Wageningen. 'Choices' is released at the small German quality label Berthold Records. On the CD we
can find new work from an organicaly playing trio and the fantastic guest soloist Michael Moore (last year also on the stage of Jazz in Wageningen) who starred three tracks.
Frits Hooft (music editor Public Broadcasting) says "I have taken a great and special musical talent. Bold and willful, far from commerce, you should dare now. As a trio, they communicate with each other in a manner to be surprised. "
