First Dutch Jazz Film Festival
It seems that a jazz film festival has never been organized in the Netherlands before. That is why we thought we should organize the First Dutch Jazz Film Festival in collaboration with the Heerenstraattheater. At a time when due to corona measures concerts are not really possible yet, but film screenings are. So we can still enjoy the music we love so much together.
This is a small and local first edition, but we intend to make this a national annual festival with several jazz stages and film houses. Wouldn't that be nice? Yes very nice!
In any case, you are welcome on 8 July during the first edition in the Torckpark in Wageningen. There we show the wonderful films mentioned here. Hopefully you can be there on July 8th.
Starts at 18:40u
USA | 2015 | Don Cheadle
The movie shows two days in the life of the famous trumpeter Miles Davis. We see the jazz legend sometime in the 1970s, many years after he started making music. Davis spends his days using cocaine, smoking cigarettes and consuming liquor. His thoughts about a big comeback and his reflections on his life are suddenly interrupted by the young Rolling Stone reporter Dave Brill who wants to write an article about Miles.
Ascenseur pour l'échafaud
Starts at 21:30 | with a musical introduction of Ellister van der Molen
France | 1958 | Louis Malle
With, among others, Jeanne Moreau, Maurice Ronet, Georges Poujouly, Lino Ventura and Yori Bertin.
French neo noir movie whose music more people have heard than that have seen the images. After a screenplay by Malle and Roger Nimier, based on a novel by Noël Calef. Best known for the melancholic music that jazz trumpeter Miles Davis made for it. Davis recorded all the songs for the film on December 4 and 5, 1957, improvised in a similar way to Kind of Blue.
