Joost Zoeteman speelt met lef en artisticiteit
Joost Zoeteman has a broad musical background. Within this background, he felt drawn to the guitar from an early age. In his late teens, he immersed himself in the music of Django Reinhardt and the rich culture of the Sinti. That early passion still resonates in his musical voice.
Zoeteman's signature style combines gipsy jazz roots with modern jazz sensibility, global influences, and a strong melodic drive. "This is music with guts, artistry, and attitude, from a player who's been playing for days."
Ben van den Dungen winner NOS Meerwaart Jazzprijs
Ben van den Dungen, born in 1960, is a leading Dutch jazz saxophonist and a versatile musical force who has made his mark on the international music scene. His musical journey began in The Hague, where he graduated with honors from the Royal Conservatoire in 1988. His passion for music and pursuit of excellence led him to far-flung locations, where he broadened his musical horizons. In the late 1980s, he had the opportunity to refine his jazz skills in New York, Cuba, and Colombia, where he immersed himself in Afro-Cuban music and Latin music arrangement.
NOS Meerwaart Jazz award
A remarkable milestone in his career came in 1985, when he won the NOS Meervaart Jazz Prize. This was just the beginning of his impressive list of achievements and awards, as in 1987 he also received the prestigious Nicolai Award from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
Since his professional debut in 1982, Ben van den Dungen has performed over 5,500 concerts in no fewer than 70 different countries. Parijs in gipsy jazz klanken
In the program "Nocturne Parisienne," three top musicians pay musical tribute to Paris's rich jazz tradition. The trio—consisting of saxophonist Ben van den Dungen, guitarist Joost Zoeteman, and double bassist Bart Tarenskeen—delve into a repertoire of well-known and lesser-known works that find their origins or soul in the French capital: from the lyricism of Sidney Bechet to the theatrical elegance of Josephine Baker, from Django Reinhardt to forgotten gems from Parisian clubs. The chanson also resonates: many famous French chansons later became jazz pieces, and their melodic charm and drama fit seamlessly into this program.
Gipsy jazz
At Jazz in Wageningen, they've promised to add a generous dose of gipsy jazz to their program. We can't wait...
