Also in the 2024-2025 season, four Jasper Somsen Invites … concerts
are planned on Thursday evenings in Loburg. As in previous years, the concert series is a
collaboration between LoburgLive, Jazz in Wageningen, PopUPop and Nationaal PodiumPlan. For the regular enthusiasts and
people who would like to experience the best jazz from the Netherlands, here are the dates for
the agenda: October 3, December 19, February 13 and April 10.
The successful concert series of the Wageningen double bassist/composer/producer
has been around for 10 years this year and has become an indispensable part of the rich art & culture program that Wageningen offers.

At the moment, there is a serious “women empowerment” going on in the jazz world, with many excellent and often surprising female musicians coming into the spotlight. So it is high time to invite the (originally) German saxophonist Susanne Alt and the South Korean pianist Sol Jang to Loburg.

The upcoming Jasper Somsen Invites … on Thursday 19 December will once again be a special concert. At the moment, there is a serious “women empowerment” going on in the jazz world, with many excellent and often surprising female musicians coming into the spotlight. So it is high time to invite the (originally) German saxophonist Susanne Alt and the South Korean pianist Sol Jang to Loburg.
Susanne Alt
With her infectious sound, catchy grooves and soulful playing, saxophonist Susanne Alt got a packed square dancing several times during the Liberation Festival in Wageningen. She graduated cum laude from the Universität der Künste Berlin, after an equally successful study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In addition to her own jazz quartet, she was one of the first jazz musicians to perform live with DJs in the nightlife. In 2004, she made her debut as a producer with Nocturne on her own record label Venus Tunes. Many albums followed later. Her experience in the nightlife was the source of inspiration for the band ‘Venus Tunes Live’, an all-female live act with musicians who are also DJs. She has worked with Fred Wesley, DJ Spinna, Opolopo, Johan S, Hardsoul, DJ Maestro and Wicked Jazz Sounds, among others. In March 2024, Royalty For Real, her sixth studio album, was released. Recorded in New York, this album is a return to the acoustic jazz that Susanne Alt once broke through with.
Sol Jang
Sol Jang is a visionary South Korean jazz pianist whose artistry transcends borders and genres. As the dynamic force behind the Sol Jang Trio, she has carved out a niche for herself in the global jazz scene. Her deep connection with the piano and her innovative approach to composition have distinguished her as a musician of exceptional depth and creativity. In 2024, she was honored with the prestigious Women in Jazz Festival Competition Award, cementing her position as a leading figure in the contemporary jazz world.

Just like the previous Jasper Somsen Invites … the concert starts at 20:30 (two sets, with intermission).
