Tineke Postma
Tineke Postma (1978) is the most internationally successful Dutch jazz saxophonist. She plays the alto and soprano saxophone, occasionally venturing into the tenor saxophone. Tineke's personal style can be described as lyrical, melodic, and adventurous.
Grammy’s & Edisons
Postma has appeared on two Grammy-winning albums (Terri Lyne Carrington’s *The Mosaic Project* and Dianne Reeves’ *Beautiful*). In addition, she has garnered numerous major (international) awards, including European Musician of the Year (Académie du Jazz, 2020), the Buma Boy Edgar Award (2015), and two Edison Awards (2011, 2024).
Wayne Shorter
Postma has collaborated with artists such as Kenny Barron, Esperanza Spalding, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and the WDR Big Band, and has performed at events including International Jazz Day (UN, 2012) and the Kennedy Center Honors (2018).
In 2023, Tineke was invited by Esperanza Spalding to perform Wayne Shorter’s parts in a concert featuring his symphonic works, such as *Gaia*, *Orbits*, and a section of the opera *Iphigenia*. The invitation to follow in Wayne Shorter’s footsteps came as a personal recommendation from the master himself, shortly before his passing in 2023.
North Sea Jazz
She is no stranger to North Sea Jazz; she is frequently seen performing on its stages. She was present in 2025 as well, performing in the role of Wayne Shorter. She stepped into his shoes by performing his symphonic works alongside his former bandmates Danilo Perez and John Patitucci.
VOYA
The new album VOYA, released on November 14, 2025, by the Swiss label Clap Your Hands, shines a spotlight on Tineke Postma and her group as they explore new musical horizons. The Tineke Postma Group leads the audience on a journey full of sound and emotion. The title VOYA refers to voyage, voice, and Oya, the Yoruba goddess of wind, breath, and transformation, and also contains a subtle tribute to mentor Wayne Shorter with the composition *A Place Called Somewhere*. Prepare yourself for an evening where Tineke's lyricism and imagination take center stage and where every note tells a story.
