Last tuesday off the month

For a vibrant jazz scene in our city, we need not only concerts by the very best jazz musicians, but also opportunities to experiment and learn. So, on the last Tuesday of the month, we organize workshops and jam sessions in the Junushoff theater café. Workshop Iman Spaargaren

Instructor Iman Spaargaren will be leading jazz workshops at Jazz in Wageningen on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, and Tuesday, May 26, 2026. He teaches at the DJAM program for jazz and improvised music in Amsterdam, among others. He has also been active for years as a teacher at Buitenkunst, a large cultural and hands-on festival in Dronten. He also gives workshops in France and other countries. But teaching isn't his only passion; Iman is also a composer, arranger, and, above all, a musician.

Who is Iman Spaargaren

Iman is a Dutch saxophone and clarinet player who combines jazz and improvisational music. Spaargaren's style is described as melodic, harmonious, and lyrical.
He is active in several projects, including his own Undercurrent trio. This trio is currently touring with Suzan Veneman. In September 2025, they took the stage at Jazz in Wageningen, captivating a packed small hall at the Junushoff Theatre with their melodic sounds.
A special project worth mentioning is the StarkLinnemann Quartet, in which Iman is a member. This quartet infuses classical works with a jazz twist, creating a unique experience that many have enjoyed at venues such as the Concertgebouw.

Jamsessie May 2026

At 9:00 PM, the workshop will transition into a jam session, which is free and open to the public. Session leader Eric de Zeeuw will lead the jam session to ensure a smooth flow, and a sound engineer will be present to ensure a smooth sound. The music will range from jazz standards to excursions into funk and soul, or wherever the vibe of the evening takes us. Musicians are welcome to participate for free, but registration is appreciated. This way, we can plan ahead for your arrival. When you register, you'll hear which pieces we'll be using as the basis for this jam session. Backline

There's a sound system, microphones, and some digital decoders. A basic drum kit can be arranged, but you're also welcome to bring your own. If you have any questions about sound, backing, or instruments, please email us.
