Who is Kika Sprangers

From profound stillness to orchestral power—that is the acclaimed tonal palette of saxophonist and composer Kika Sprangers (Nijmegen, 1994). Listening to Sprangers is akin to viewing a Rothko painting: hidden within her musical planes of color are undercurrents that subconsciously sweep the audience along.

Edison Award

With her distinctive, melodic, and dark saxophone sound, Sprangers is a leading voice in the Dutch jazz scene. This status was underscored in 2025 when she won an Edison Jazz Nationaal award for the album *(In)finity*.
Also in 2025, she had the honor of being awarded the composition commission for the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Project Hera: 9 female vocalists

Kika Sprangers is a multifaceted figure in the Dutch jazz world, leading a wide variety of projects. In addition to the quintet she is bringing to Wageningen, her work includes a large ensemble, the Scandinavian-inspired *Beiggja*, and the recent project *Hera*. For *Hera*, Sprangers is joined by no fewer than nine (!) female vocalists, including Anna Serierse, Marit van der Lei, and Nina Rompa. The ten women perform this project exclusively in churches, creating a unique acoustic experience.

Podcast for NPO Luister / VPRO

Beyond composing and performing, Sprangers also produces a podcast. Together with Koen Graat, she creates the podcast *Hoezo Jazz?!* for NPO Luister / VPRO.
