For a vibrant jazz scene in our city, we need not only concerts by the very best jazz musicians, but also opportunities to experiment and learn. So, on the last Tuesday of the month, we organize workshops and jam sessions in the Junushoff theater café. Workshop Suzan Veneman
Renowned Dutch trumpeter Suzan Veneman will lead the workshops on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and Tuesday, August 25, 2026. In 2023, Suzan also led the workshops at Jazz in Wageningen. And to everyone's satisfaction, because since then, many have been asking when she'll be back. Now!
Who is Suzan Veneman?
Dutch jazz trumpeter and composer Suzan Veneman captivates audiences with her adventurous and soulful sound. After studying in the US, she is active in the jazz scene, both in the Netherlands and abroad. She is at home in many genres of modern music and plays with a wide range of bands, including the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, the BvR Flamenco Big Band, Zack Lober's 'NO FILL3R', Iman Spaargaren's 'Undercurrent Trio', and her own ambitious projects 'Zinder' and the 'Suzan Veneman Sextet'.
Project 'Zinder'
Suzan launched her project 'Zinder' in 2021, a sextet consisting of four trumpets, a double bass, and drums. Her idea was to combine the dynamic power of four trumpets with the freedom of a chordless trio. Within this unique formation, Veneman playfully explores the different roles the trumpet occupies within the jazz idiom, using big band-like influences, desolate melodies, free improvisation, and warm harmonious interplay.

Jamsessie June 2026
At 9:00 PM, the workshop will transition into a jam session, which is free and open to the public. Session leader Eric de Zeeuw will lead the jam session to ensure a smooth flow, and a sound engineer will be present to ensure a smooth sound. The music will range from jazz standards to excursions into funk and soul, or wherever the vibe of the evening takes us. Musicians are welcome to participate for free, but registration is appreciated. This way, we can plan ahead for your arrival. When you register, you'll hear which pieces we'll be using as the basis for this jam session. Backline
There's a sound system, microphones, and some digital decoders. A basic drum kit can be arranged, but you're also welcome to bring your own. If you have any questions about sound, backing, or instruments, please email us.
